When a beloved icon like Dharmendra faces health challenges, the entire nation holds its breath. The recent hospitalization of the legendary actor sent ripples of concern through Bollywood and beyond, sparking fervent prayers and well-wishes for his swift recovery. And amidst the worry, even unfounded rumors of his passing circulated before he was eventually discharged from the hospital on Wednesday morning. But here’s where it gets controversial… Why do such rumors spread so quickly, and what impact do they have on the actor and his family?
The outpouring of love for Dharmendra was palpable, with numerous celebrities flocking to Breach Candy Hospital to offer their support. Among them were titans of the industry like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Govinda. Aamir Khan, accompanied by Gauri Spratt, was also seen visiting on Tuesday night. And now, Govinda’s wife, Ssunita Ahuja, has added her voice to the chorus of well-wishers, expressing her fervent prayers for Dharmendra’s complete recovery.
Ssunita Ahuja, spotted at the airport, shared her sentiments with the paparazzi when asked about Dharmendra’s health. “Govinda went to meet him yesterday,” she explained, “but I wasn’t in Mumbai at the time. He is our family’s most favourite actor… our He-Man! I’ve been praying to Mata Rani since yesterday for his speedy recovery, just like before.”
Expanding on her heartfelt wishes, Ssunita added, “Meri dil se ye dua hai bas main acchi khabar sunn lu. Main bhi jaongi unko dekhne ke liye. Ho jaayenge woh theek. Punjabi log kabhi haar nahi maante. Ekdum first class ho jayenge woh,” which translates to, “My prayer is just to hear some good news. I will also go to see him. He will get well. Punjabis never give up. He will be completely fine, first class!” This statement, filled with cultural pride and unwavering optimism, embodies the spirit of resilience often associated with Punjabi culture.
And this is the part most people miss… The irony of the situation: while everyone celebrated Dharmendra’s discharge, fate took an unexpected turn. Just as Dharmendra was released, Govinda himself was rushed to Criticare Hospital in Juhu after fainting. According to Bindal, a close family friend and lawyer, Govinda collapsed in the evening and was immediately taken to the hospital for observation and tests. His condition is currently being closely monitored by doctors.
Govinda’s sudden hospitalization, occurring a mere day after his visit to Dharmendra, serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and health. It also highlights the close-knit community within Bollywood, where actors support each other through thick and thin.
Ssunita’s unwavering faith and declaration that “Punjabis never give up” is a powerful statement. But does this hold true in all situations?
